Woollybutt is partnering with Lud Allen, Sexual Health Counselling and Education Services, to bring a series of workshops to Darwin exploring intellectual disability and sexuality.
Lud has a Master of Health Sciences (Sexual Health) with a specialty in sexuality counselling. He is a member of the World Association of Sexual Health and the Society of Australian Sexologists.
The workshops are running over 4 days in March. Please see links below to each of these workshops. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Please share any dietary requirements.
Please note:
(This workshop is a prerequisite to attending other workshops run by Lud, with the exception of the family day)
This workshop will explore the meanings that you give to sexuality and specifically the meaning you give to sexual education for people with an intellectual disability.
Participants will explore the ways that we have interpreted consent (both for ourselves and for people with an intellectual disability) and specifically look at new approaches to understanding consent.
In this workshop, you are asked to bring a current scenario that is problematic for you and your work.
This workshop will explore the ways that you approach sexuality issues with your clients. This is a hands-on practical session.
This is a day where we welcome families and carers of people with intellectual disabilities who demonstrate sexualised behaviour to come along and ask Lud questions to help with day-to-day challenges, and to learn more about these behaviours in an informal way.
Over the day, families can use real life examples to access support from Lud and develop actions to address these behaviours. Sexual health education is essential for keeping people safe and allowing for maximum development.
Please note that workshops require a minimum number to go ahead. Ticket sales will close on the 1st March, and tickets will be finalised by the 8th March.
