Free Mooditj Leader Training in Darwin supported by Northern Territory Health

Mooditj is a free 4-day resilience, relationships and sexual health education program.

Registrations close on 13 January 2023.

Designed for Aboriginal community members or professionals working with young Aboriginal people aged 10 – 15.

Why should your organisation participate?

The NT has the highest burden of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Australia. Aboriginal people have higher rates of STIs and the highest rates occur in young people. There is currently an ongoing syphilis outbreak.

The NT also has the highest rate of domestic and family violence. Supporting young people to engage in respectful relationships is a vital part of violence prevention.

Mooditj provides a strengths-based, culturally safe approach to addressing these issues. The NT has a culturally rich, linguistically diverse and strong workforce.

Local community members are best placed to understand and talk with young Aboriginal people.

What will participants get from this training?

Comprehensive manuals with detailed session plans and resource templates for all 28 education sessions (50 minutes each) are provided.

Participants will leave with:

  • the knowledge, skills and confidence to run Mooditj activities, sessions or programs
  • practical ways to talk about sensitive relationship and sexual health issues with young people.

Cost

NT Health is subsiding the cost for this training so that it is free for participants to attend. It is expected that participants will take the skills and knowledge learnt from this training to deliver sessions in their communities.

It is expected that organisations cover the costs of travel, accommodation and travel allowance.
