Darwin Clinical Supervision two-day workshop 2023
A low-cost workshop for all health professionals interested in building their clinical supervision skills with learners in the workplace.
Who should attend?
Health professionals of any experience level who are engaged or interested in supervision of students, trainees, or newly graduated staff within their workplace.
Workshop Aims
This 2-day workshop will provide a friendly and interactive environment that will allow you to expand your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in workplace-based clinical supervision. The facilitators will help you contextualize your learning and promote discussion of issues that enhance your confidence as an effective clinical supervisor.
The topics will cover
• Planning workplace learning including taking an educational history, negotiating a learning plan.
• Engaging with and teaching learners using proven tools e.g., the One Minute Preceptor and the 4-step method of teaching a clinical skill.
• Promoting learning through effective feedback.
• Supporting learners in difficulty: applying strategies to address a learner who is lacking in confidence, acting unprofessionally, or struggling to learn in the workplace.
The presenters
The training will be facilitated by health educators from Flinders University, Rural and Remote Health, Northern Territory. The workshop has been delivered to over 600 participants in Australia and internationally and was awarded the Flinders University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Executive Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2016. Facilitators are all experienced allied health clinicians who understand the rewards and challenges of clinical teaching and supervision.
