A new career, a new home and a whole lot of adventure. For Darwin speech pathologist Nicole, moving to the Northern Territory has been an opportunity to grow professionally while embracing everything the Top End has to offer.

Originally from far north Queensland, Nicole moved to Darwin in January to work with Pacific Health and Well-Being. She connected with Rell from the NT PHN workforce team who helped her find a role that matched her career goals and workplace preferences.

“She really helped me find a workplace that suited me and what I was looking for” Nicole said.

Nicole was also a recipient of an NT Thrive grant, funded by NT PHN to help health professionals with relocation costs.

“Having financial support before moving gave me peace of mind and was really helpful with settling in to Darwin.”

Since moving to Darwin, Nicole has found plenty of opportunities to develop her skills and broaden her experience. It has given her exposure to a variety of clients and clinical needs.

“The thing I love about working in the NT is the variety of caseloads that present. I’m working across the lifespan, which is something I really enjoy,” she said.

Outside work, Nicole has embraced the Territory lifestyle, connecting with the local community and enjoying Darwin’s incredible surrounds.

“I love the adventure that comes with living in the NT. We often go camping and fishing on weekends, and the beaches and sunsets are spectacular.”

For allied health professionals considering a move to Darwin, Nicole encourages them to take the opportunity, regardless of where they are in their career.

“If someone was thinking about moving to Darwin to begin a career, I would say do it. I don’t think it matters if you’re a new grad or further on in your career. I think it’s a jump that’s going to give you the learning experience that you need.”
