The Australian Government’s Bonded Medical Program provides Commonwealth Supported Places in medical courses at Australian universities. In return, participants commit to completing a 3-year Return of Service Obligation (RoSO) in an eligible regional, rural or remote area after completing their medical degree.

Completing your RoSO in the NT

If you’re a participant in the Bonded Medical Program, you can complete your RoSO:

  • anywhere in the NT
  • any time over an 18-year period (it does not have to be continuous)
  • part time, full time or on a per-day basis
  • as a FIFO doctor in eligible locations
  • half before your Fellowship and half after you attain fellowship.

For more information about the program, visit the Australian Government’s Bonded Medical Program webpage.

Legacy Bonded Medical Schemes

Participants in the 2 former schemes, which are now closed to new participants, may be eligible to opt into the Bonded Medical Program. This includes the:

  • Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship Scheme
  • Bonded Medical Places Scheme.

If you’re a GP on the Bonded Medical Program administered by the Commonwealth and you’re looking to complete your RoSO in the NT, please contact our recruitment team.

The Bonded Medical Program is only available in interstate universities. For students studying
medicine in the NT, please refer to the Northern Territory Bonded Medical Scheme below.
