The GROW NT Program provides allied health, nursing and medical students an opportunity to experience rural and remote primary health care in the NT through a fully supported immersion weekend in Central Australia.

Funded by NT PHN and delivered by Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA), GROW NT is not a student placement. It is an immersive learning experience designed to provide participants with insight into rural and remote health practice, culturally safe and place-based models of care, and the diverse career pathways available across the NT.

What participants experience

As part of the program, participants will:

  • visit rural and remote primary health care services
  • learn from Aboriginal Elders, knowledge holders and community leaders
  • hear from allied health professionals, nurses, doctors and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners with extensive experience working in rural and remote NT
  • gain insights into culturally safe, place-based models of care
  • build connections with students from allied health, nursing and medicine
  • learn about career pathways and opportunities available across rural and remote NT.

Who is eligible?

GROW NT is designed for university students studying allied health, nursing and medicine, at any stage of their degree.

The program prioritises Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, students with cultural and/or kinship ties to the Territory, and those from or with family connections to the NT.
