When Ryan moved to Darwin five years ago, he expected it to be temporary. Instead, the Territory drew him in, offering both a career and a lifestyle that felt instantly like home.
“I thought we’d only be here for a few months,” he says. “But Darwin has that way about it, you fall in love with the lifestyle and the people, and before you know it, this place feels like home.”
Now a partner at Maximise Physiotherapy in Palmerston, Ryan has experienced career growth he never expected so early.
“I’ve definitely progressed faster here than I probably would have interstate,” he says.
“Between the mentoring from senior physiotherapists at our clinic and the support from NT PHN, I’ve been able to take on leadership roles and complete further training much earlier in my career.”
Ryan says the NT offers a rare balance between professional opportunity and lifestyle.
“There’s a great mix here, you can really fast track your career and still have a good life. We live five minutes from work, so I’m home quickly and have more time for my family and our dog instead of sitting in traffic.”
“You also see a wider variety of cases here, including people from remote areas who may not have seen a doctor in years. It really broadens your experience.”
Outside of work, Ryan makes the most of the Territory’s outdoor lifestyle.
“Living in the Territory means there’s always something to explore. On weekends we’re out camping or visiting national parks, and everything’s close by. It’s the kind of place where adventure is part of everyday life.”
