Healthy Living NT recently celebrated the completion of their first 10-week block of the Move & Improve program in Darwin, leaving participants feeling stronger, healthier and more connected.
Funded by the Northern Territory Primary Health Network (NT PHN) through the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Program, Move & Improve is an ongoing structured initiative designed to support people to move more safely and confidently. The program includes an initial and final consultation, alongside 8 weekly one-hour physical activity sessions led by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
Exercise Physiologist Hannah, who helps facilitate the program, said the outcomes have been extremely encouraging.
“My clients have thoroughly enjoyed the Move & Improve program, and it’s been great seeing the progress they are making in class. The effects of physical activity on their health and wellbeing have been incredible so far,” Hannah said.
“The weekly sessions have provided opportunities for social engagement, with many any of the participants forming connections – some even heading out for coffee together after class.”
At the completion of the program, participants are provided with practical handouts to support ongoing physical activity at home. They are also linked into other exercise and social programs to help maintain momentum and stay connected beyond the 10-week block.
People can access this service through their GP via the MDT program, or by contacting the Program Systems Navigator directly on 08 7979 9115.
