If you are an Aboriginal Health Worker or Practitioner looking to upskill in the use of local clinical care manuals and guidelines to respond to common patient presentations, then Mirii is for you.
This CRANAplus two and a half day course is designed with plenty of opportunities for participants to develop and practice their clinical skills. Both chronic and acute disease presentations will be covered in a simulated environment which will include skills stations under the guidance of highly experienced instructors.
The practical scenarios will include common clinic presentations in a remote health setting:
- A basic familiarisation of local manuals (CARPA, PCCM), and using them to perform a medical consultation and access the correct treatment protocol.
- Describing and using a systematic patient assessment approach using Primary and Secondary Survey and the local manual guidelines.
- Understanding the importance of good clinical documentation, verbal and written handover and being able to refer patients appropriately.
Learning Objectives
On successful completion of this course, clinicians will be able to:
- Understand the importance of early recognition of a deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach
- Perform a systematic assessment process and understand escalation needs and pathways available
- Consider the relevant presentation and be guided by outcomes of assessment in treatment and management based on local manual/guidelines
- Demonstrate accurate documentation and communicate a clear, concise handover of findings and interventions using the ISBAR approach
- Understand the legal and ethical considerations of decision making.
