GP Education – Online Neurodevelopmental Series – Combined Session: ASD Through the Lifespan: Children to Adults

The NT PHN and speaker, A/Prof Dr Gargan Garg, Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at Royal Darwin Hospital, present the final session of a Neurodevelopmental series for GPs.

Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) & Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Across the Lifespan.

Who is this training for?

This session is for GPs in busy practices.

Presenter

Dr Garg is a senior Consultant Child, Adolescent & Youth Psychiatrist with more than two decades of experience in Psychiatry. Dr Garg moved to Darwin from the UK in 2013. Dr Garg assesses and manages Children, Adolescents ( roughly 13-18 years) & Youth (roughly 15-25 years) with a wide range of mental health issues/ disorders with particular expertise in the management of Mood disorders, Anxiety disorders, OCD, Tourette Syndrome, Gaming/ Social Media issues, PTSD, Neurodevelopmental Disorders including ADHD and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders).

Dr Garg is a “Fellow” of both the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and Royal College of Psychiatrists, London. He is currently attached to Flinders Charles Darwin University as a an A/Prof and Senior Clinical Lecturer. In addition, he is also involved in supervising, teaching and training of medical students, trainee psychiatrists, and other mental and physical health professionals.

This session: ASD Through the Lifespan:  Children to Adults

 Dr Garg will examine the way Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can manifest in adults.   This session is the final session in our series.

The session will be an interactive one on Teams and a great opportunity for participants to ask Dr Garg any questions about adults with ASD.

Learning Objectives for the Series

  • Describe how Neurodevelopmental Disorders, such as ADHD and ASD, manifest throughout an individual’s entire lifespan, including childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
  • Recognise key symptoms indicative of undiagnosed Neurodevelopmental Disorders and potential co-morbid conditions within the constraints of a busy GP practice.
  • Utilise and interpret preliminary screening instruments for Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
  • Identify and explain the local services available for supporting and managing Neurodevelopmental Disorders, including behavioural, psychological, and pharmacological interventions.
