NT PHN invites expressions of interest from General Practice Owner’s in the Northern Territory to receive a subsidy payment toward attendance of the Practice Owner’s Conference from 24 – 25 May 2025 in Melbourne.

What is the conference?

The Practice Owner’s Conference supports general practitioners to develop locally responsive sustainable models of care, including more community-based models with a particular focus on remote settings.  This will support accessibility of private primary health care to all population groups.

General practice owners in the Northern Territory are under increasing pressure due to workforce issues, sustainability concerns, and financial pressure.  The mainstream NT General practices are at a disadvantage due to remote location and thin markets, with recruitment and retention increasingly difficult.  MBS billing and financial viability remain a constant concern. These issues, alongside business operation needs in a changing landscape, will be discussed at this conference.

How much will NT PHN subsidise?

Targeting practice owners, NT PHN hopes to strengthen awareness of current reforms to apply in their own practices, leaning into modern technologies and systems to improve practice viability and patient outcomes.

Subsidy amounts are as follows, according to location of General Practice:

Area MMM2 – Subsidy of $500
Area MMM6 – Subsidy of $800
Area MMM7 – Subsidy of $1000

Who is eligible for the subsidy?

Applicant criteria: 

  • General practitioners, and by special consideration, possibly Practice Managers of General Practices operating within the Northern Territory.

Reimbursement criteria:

  • Proof of expenditure of the subsidy amount
  • A completed “Reimbursement Claim Form”
  • Have completed NT PHN evaluation
  • All reimbursement claims to be submitted by 5 June 2025.

Please consider whether you may have a conflict of interest in applying for this subsidy, with the NT PHN definition of Conflict of Interest as follows:

“A conflict of interest occurs when there is a conflict between an applicant’s personal interests and their obligations to NT PHN.  As a result, independence, objectivity or impartiality can be called into question.”

Conflicts of interests may be actual, potential, or perceived, as described below:

  • An actual conflict of interest exists where there is a direct and existing conflict between the personal or other interests of the applicant and their duties and responsibilities to NT PHN.
  • A potential conflict of interest is where it can be reasonably expected that a personal or other interest of an employee may in future conflict with their duties and responsibilities to NT PHN.
  • A perceived conflict of interest is where it may appear to a reasonable third person that an applicant’s personal or other interests has an actual or potential conflict of interests, whether this is in fact the case.”
