A free one day one day SARC ‘Primary Health Response to Sexual Assault’, workshop in Darwin

Join experienced SARC educators for this essential training. This workshop will provide theoretical and practical input to increase confidence, knowledge and skills in responding  to clients who attend Northern Territory health services following sexual assault. Workshop location will be provided closer to the workshop.

Who is this for?

Suitable for Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and Primary Health Care & Emergency Department clinical staff

Workshop Program

Workshop content will include a focus on the following topics:

• Consent and the law – clarify the definition of sexual assault
• Provision of cultural safety
• Mandatory reporting – processes and procedures
• Prevalence and patterns related to sexual assault
• Sexually transmitted infections and blood borne virus’ (STI’s & BBV’s) in the Northern Territory
• Initial management of sexual assault – primary health care and emergency department facilities
• Safe evacuation process following sexual assault, with consideration of client safety and medical needs
• Minimising DNA contamination, preservation and management of forensic evidence
• Police sexual assault support teams
• Appropriate use of preliminary forensic kits (PFKs) and maintaining the chain of evidence.
