‘Care not Treatment! The therapeutic neuroscience of active listening in a GP setting. How we, as clinicians can help settle the distressed brains by just being there’ with Dr Les Koopowitz
This upcoming CPD session will provide an opportunity for GPs to learn how to use active listening to improve patient outcomes for patients with brain trauma.
Who is this for?
GPs, GP Registrars
Presenters
- Pam Marwood
- Pam is NEAMI National’s Clinical Services Manager
- Dr Les Koopowitz
- A specialist psychiatrist since 1991, Les and his family relocated to Australia in 1995. After working for many years in the field of Neuropsychiatry (based at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in Adelaide) Les attempted to retire in 2021. Since then, a part-time consultancy job as a Consultant Psychiatrist for Neami National has developed into Les assuming the role of the Neami National Psychiatrist and providing a service to various Neami run Mental Health Services throughout Australia. Les remains keenly interested in the clinical management of people presenting with difficulties in maintaining their mental health equilibrium. He will be addressing clinical issues in the therapeutic neuroscience of active listening in a GP setting. This will not be a prepared lecture but an interactive clinical forum. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and/or present clinical cases for discussion.Forum topic will be: How does trauma affect the brain and what can we do about it? This presentation will explore the neurobiological consequences of emotional trauma, the concept of epigenetics, and how therapies can help change the wiring of the brain.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the neurobiological and epigenetic impacts of emotional trauma on the brain.
- Describe how evidence-based therapies can support brain rewiring and recovery.
