Who should attend?

These workshops are for experienced clinicians who have had exposure to trauma and are seeking practical strategies to assess and support complex trauma and better understand the impact of complex trauma across the lifespan. Participants must be speech pathologists.

Presenter

Kate Headley

Kate has practiced as a speech pathologist for over 20 years, across which time she has worked in rural, remote, regional and urban settings both in Australia and overseas. She is passionate about many areas of speech pathology practice including dysphagia, language and literacy. Kate is equally passionate about ensuring speech pathology services can be delivered within evidence informed, person-centred, holistic approaches that prioritise family and community wellbeing. Kate has combined her experience across the disability sector, generalist services and specific trauma treatment services to deliver trauma informed clinical services, speech pathology supervision and mentoring and education events for students and practising clinicians.

    • Refresh their knowledge of the neurobiology of complex trauma and attachment
    • Identify the challenges that can emerge in delivering speech pathology services to children who have experienced complex trauma
    • Plan modifications to assessment processes that support children’s engagement and participation
    • Evaluate your own service delivery strengths and barriers for children who have experienced complex trauma
    • Collaborate with peers to broaden ideas for clinical practice
    • Design intervention strategies that are responsive to children’s individual emotional support needs
    • Understand frameworks for ongoing reflective practice when working with children who have experienced complex traumaWho should attend
