Flinders University, Occupational Therapy Driver Assessment & Rehabilitation, Mixed Mode Delivery

Are you an Occupational Therapist with at least two years of clinical experience?

This 10-day equivalent educational topic will explore key issues that impact upon driver assessment including medico-legal requirements, state legislation, driver cognitive, perceptual, visual and physical function, on-road assessment, and will assist participants in communicating appropriate recommendations and reports following assessment.

Mixed Mode Delivery

  1. Online – 3rd March 2025
  2. One-week intensive – 16th – 20th June 2025 at Flinders Tonsley Campus and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide.

Learning outcomes

  1. Describe models of driver behaviour and discuss the application of the Assessing Fitness to Drive Guidelines and Standards for Health Professionals in Australia within the context of federal and local legislation, ethical and medico-legal requirements.
  2. Identify appropriate assessments of visual, cognitive, perceptual and physical functioning and learn to analyse results for appropriate recommendations.
  3. Review ergonomics and appropriate vehicle modifications.
  4. On-road assessment.
  5. Observation and assessment tools.
  6. Formulating and communicating assessment outcomes and recommendations.
  7. Program planning, training, ergonomics, modifications and rehabilitation.
  8. Report writing considering medico-legal requirements.

CPD

This course complies with the professional development standards of health professional accreditation bodies and attendees may use these hours to accrue CPD points.

Credit

Students have the option to complete additional assessment to gain 9 units of credit towards an award program at Flinders University.

Specifically a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters of Clinical Rehabilitation at Flinders University, or a Master of Clinical Rehabilitation at Flinders University. 

Cost

$4,550.00

Funding

Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for award-based studies, substantially reducing the student contribution cost. Students complete online and intensive coursework and assessments to gain an additional 9 units of credit towards an award program. Find out more.
