CRANAplus Remote Emergency Care Course in Darwin
The REC course is designed to facilÂiÂtate a perÂsonÂalised learnÂing expeÂriÂence for the remote and isoÂlatÂed clinÂiÂcian (NursÂes, MidÂwives, AboÂrigÂiÂnal & TorÂres Strait Islander Health Workers/​Practitioners, ParaÂmedics and MedÂical OffiÂcers) who may be required to proÂvide emerÂgency care to the critÂiÂcalÂly ill or injured patient.
For many employÂers REC is a mandaÂtoÂry preÂreqÂuiÂsite to work in remote locations.
The REC course uses a blendÂed learnÂing approach:
- Online pre-course modÂules that must be comÂpletÂed one week before the course
- AttenÂdance at a two day face to face workÂshop conÂsistÂing of guidÂed disÂcusÂsions, pracÂtiÂcal skill staÂtions led by highÂly expeÂriÂenced clinÂiÂcians, and conÂtext based scenarios
- A basic life supÂport clinÂiÂcal skills assessÂment (OptionÂal)
- An indiÂvidÂual sceÂnario based assessment
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- DemonÂstrate iniÂtial assessÂment and manÂageÂment of a seriÂousÂly ill or injured client in the remote and isoÂlatÂed setting.
- PerÂform a sysÂtemÂatÂic priÂmaÂry surÂvey to idenÂtiÂfy actuÂal or immiÂnent life threatÂenÂing preÂsenÂtaÂtions and proÂvide lifeÂsavÂing interÂvenÂtions to estabÂlish a client’s airÂway, breathÂing and circulation.
- ConÂduct a sysÂtemÂatÂic secÂondary surÂvey to colÂlect addiÂtionÂal inforÂmaÂtion and perÂform a comÂpreÂhenÂsive physÂiÂcal assessÂment to detect othÂer sigÂnifÂiÂcant but not immeÂdiÂateÂly life-threatÂenÂing injuries or conditions.
- DemonÂstrate accuÂrate docÂuÂmenÂtaÂtion and comÂmuÂniÂcate a clear conÂcise hanÂdover of findÂings and interÂvenÂtions using the ISBAR approach.
- PerÂform Basic Life SupÂport as per AusÂtralian ResusÂciÂtaÂtion CounÂcil guideÂlines. (OptionÂal)
