Free, Hybrid CPD Evening: “NT SARC Essentials” – SARC Sexual Assault Services – NT Wide on 19 March, 6pm.

The NT PHN invites you to join us for a CPD education evening with NT SARC and presenters Deb Frost and SARC Acting Manager Nicole Davis.

The NT experiences the highest rates of domestic, family and sexual violence in Australia.

This upcoming CPD evening will provide an opportunity for you to update your knowledge about the prevalence and patterns of sexual assault, the primary healthcare inputs, including the NT-specific reporting pathways. Learn about the evacuation process (PATS) and Care Flight. Understand client safety and SARC service provision pathways for paediatrics and adults.

Who is this for?

We encourage all health professionals working in clinical primary health settings to attend.

Presenters

Deborah Frost is a highly experienced Registered Nurse, qualified in 1993 in Portsmouth, UK. She has dedicated much of her career to specializing in sexual and reproductive health and blood-borne viruses, obtaining several professional qualifications in both the UK and Australia. Deborah moved to the Northern Territory in 2008, where she further developed her expertise in supporting individuals affected by sexual violence. In 2016, she achieved the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (S.A.N.E.) qualification through the Education Centre against Violence (ECAV), NSW Health. Her passion for promoting sexual and reproductive health rights led her to complete a Master of Public Health qualification through Charles Darwin University (CDU), all while working full-time as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Deborah remains committed to providing optimum care to those affected by sexual violence and advocating for sexual and reproductive health rights.

Nicole Davis is a proud Territorian, having lived and worked on Larrakia land for the past 15 years. With a diverse background in the community services field, Nicole’s career has including working in intensive family support, domestic & family violence, foster care and with those experiencing homelessness. Nicole also has experience in the development and facilitation of training. She has dedicated 7 years to working at the Sexual Assault Centre in Darwin, where she serves as the Sexual Assault Counselling Team Leader and is currently the Acting Manager of SARC. Nicole adopts a trauma-informed, person-centred approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities to support her clients. Nicole is committed to providing compassionate care and advocacy for those impacted by sexual violence.

Learning Objective

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • describe the services offered by NT SARC and identify when and how to refer patients to NT SARC, ensuring appropriate and timely access to their services.

Details

The first workshop will be held on Wednesday the 19th of March from 6-8pm at the Oaks Elan Hotel in Darwin and it will be live streamed so our remote stakeholders can dial in. For those able to attend in person, a buffet dinner will follow the presentation. The online component will run from 6-7pm.
