Webinar – Neurodiversity-Affirming Play: Reimagining Play in OT

Webinar – Neurodiversity-Affirming Play: Reimagining Play in OT

Build confidence using a neurodiversity-affirming approach that supports autonomy, connection, regulation and joy.

Strengthen your practice at our Reimagining Play Workshop.

Who is this for?

This workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists working with neurodivergent children who want to strengthen their approach to play-based practice.

It will be particularly useful for those who:

  • Work in paediatric or play-based Occupational Therapy
  • Support autistic, ADHD and other neurodivergent children
  • Want to develop more neurodiversity-affirming assessment, intervention and goal setting
  • Are looking for practical strategies to support co-regulation, autonomy and meaningful participation
  • Want to better understand and work with children’s interests, stims and preferred ways of playing

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  1. Understand neurodiversity-affirming principles and contemporary perspectives on play
  2. Recognise different ways neurodivergent children play, communicate, connect and regulate
  3. Distinguish between differences in play and genuine barriers to participation
  4. Use strengths-based observation to understand what a child’s play may be communicating
  5. Incorporate interests, stims and preferred play into meaningful therapeutic experiences
  6. Use co-regulation and low-demand approaches to support autonomy, choice and engagement
  7. Join and extend a child’s play without unnecessarily redirecting or changing it
  8. Adapt activities and environments to support sensory and regulation needs
  9. Develop therapeutic goals focused on meaningful participation rather than compliance
