What will you learn?

The REC course is designed to facil­i­tate a per­son­alised learn­ing expe­ri­ence for the remote and iso­lat­ed clin­i­cian (Nurs­es, Mid­wives, Abo­rig­i­nal & Tor­res Strait Islander Health Workers/​Practitioners, Para­medics and Med­ical Offi­cers) who may be required to pro­vide emer­gency care to the crit­i­cal­ly ill or injured people

For many employ­ers REC is a manda­to­ry pre­req­ui­site to work in remote locations.

Course Overview

The CRANAplus Remote Emergency Care (REC) course consists of the following components:

• Online pre-course materials and assessments that must be completed one week before the workshop.
• Attendance at a two day face-to-face workshop consisting of guided discussions, practical skill stations and context-based scenarios.
• One individual scenario based clinical skills assessments.

Learning Objectives

1. Apply initial assessment and management knowledge and skills to the care of the seriously ill or injured in a remote setting
2. Identify actual or imminent life-threatening presentations using a systematic primary and secondary survey approach.
3. Critically reflect on the knowledge and skills required to provide culturally safe emergency care in a remote setting.
4. Construct accurate communication and documentation for a safe handover of care.
