Who Should Attend?

The target audience of this Train the Trainers program is healthcare providers who provide antenatal care, including but not limited to midwives and shared-care GPs, and who are working in a role which enables them to provide training and support to colleagues who also provide antenatal care.

Course Components

The training package consists of:

• An online learning module – participants will learn about syphilis epidemiology, antenatal testing, treatment, and contract tracing at their own pace
• 120-minute live (remote) facilitated and interactive session
• Pre- and post-course evaluation survey
• A toolkit to enable you to deliver the training in your own practice setting
• Ongoing follow-up support by ASHM

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course and its components, participants will be able to:

• Describe the clinical stages of syphilis and identify clinical symptoms
• Explain the importance of syphilis testing in pregnancy
• Interpret syphilis serology test results
• Discuss referral pathways and supports for positive syphilis cases in pregnancy
• Locate relevant national and state antenatal guidelines for the testing, management, contact tracing and notification of syphilis
