The NT PHN invites GPs to join us for a CPD evening with Professor Lisa Hui at Knotts Crossing, Katherine.

Katherine region GPs, midwives and AHW working in private practice & ACCHOs are invited to join the NT PHN and Professor Lisa Hui to learn about  the update on the new RANZCOG Evidence based guideline on Screening for fetal structural and chromosomal conditions, and the recently updated national Pregnancy Care guidelines on congenital CMV.

Presenter

• Professor Lisa Hui
  • Lisa is a maternal fetal medicine specialist with special interests in prenatal screening and diagnosis, particularly the use of cell-free nucleic acids in the diagnosis of fetal abnormalities and prediction of obstetric complications. She is Director of Genetics at the Mercy Hospital for Women, which looks after patients throughout the northeast of Melbourne and regional Victoria.
  • She holds an MRFF investigator fellowship in the Genomics Health Futures Priority scheme, is a team leader in the Reproductive Epidemiology group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She is an active member of the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis and an associate editor of its official scientific journal Prenatal Diagnosis. Lisa is involved in RANZCOG activities through the Genomics Advisory Working Party and MFM subspeciality examinations.
  • Lisa also sits on the Stillbirth Subcommittee of the Victorian Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity, which is the advisory body to the Minister of Health. (Mercy Hospital for Women)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Summarise the key changes in the 2024 RANZCOG guideline on prenatal screening for fetal structural and chromosomal conditions, including implications for first- and second-trimester care.
2. Describe the recommended approach to counselling patients about screening options, including the role of NIPT, combined first trimester screening (CFTS), and second trimester morphology scans.
3. Recognise the significance of congenital CMV infection during pregnancy and the rationale for the updates in the 2025 national Pregnancy Care guidelines.
4. Identify evidence-based strategies for reducing the risk of CMV transmission in pregnancy and understand when and how to test for CMV.
5. Apply these updated guidelines in clinical scenarios relevant to general practice, especially in rural & remote settings like Katherine, taking into account access to ultrasound, specialist services, & cultural safety considerations.
